Picking up just hours after The Gunslinger ends, Roland Deschain wakes on a deserted beach along the Western Sea, where he is savagely attacked by monstrous creatures that leave him wounded and feverish. Struggling to survive, he discovers three mysterious doors along the shoreline — each one opening into a different person’s life in New York City at different points in time.
