Rilla, ma Rilla follows Rilla Blythe, the youngest daughter of Anne Shirley, as she grows from a carefree teenager into a mature young woman during World War I. At the beginning, Rilla is more interested in parties and fun than serious matters, but her life changes dramatically when the war begins and the men in her community go off to fight. She adopts a war orphan baby, faces loss, fear, and uncertainty, and gradually becomes stronger and more responsible. The novel shows how war affects families and communities at home while focusing on personal growth and resilience. It explores themes of maturity, sacrifice, patriotism, loss, and coming of age during difficult times.
